Controlled irrigation with probes in olive and almond trees
Our soil moisture and temperature sensors / probes are reaching many olive groves and almond farms in these two provinces.
Clients are seeing the advantages of controlling irrigation in the olive tree :
- For saving water and energy.
- Optimize production.
- Improve the quality of olives and almonds.
- Increase the quantity of production.
- Avoid the hydric stress of the crop.
- To avoid deterioration of the fruit.

Intensive almond plantations
The provinces of Córdoba and Huelva are increasing the number of intensive hedge-shaped almond tree plantations, basically where they have irrigation.
The new varieties that are adapted to this type of plantation have the following advantages:
- They have a later pollination and that favors production because they are less sensitive to late frosts.
- It is easier to apply a drip irrigation by the online distribution of the plantation, control it with humidity and temperature sensors and save water and energy.
- Very comfortable planting to apply mechanical harvesting systems.
- In addition, the tillage, collection of pruning remains and tillage of the land is facilitated.

Drip irrigation controlled with probes in olive and almond groves
There can be two types of irrigation: surface or buried.
- In the superficial we have the disadvantage of having the pipes in the way when working or clearing. It is cheaper to start but more laborious in the long run and causes more evaporation.
- In the buried perspiration is avoided and the water passes directly to the roots. The water savings are considerable. It is more expensive to install and we must have a good installation team.
Both in Córdoba and in Huelva almond cultivation is conditioned by the spring rains factor as we already indicated in another article.
This makes irrigation controlled by soil moisture and temperature sensors / probes very important.
In the flowering and production season, the almond tree needs a significant supply of water, especially in the growth of the almond.
The same happens with the olive grove.
