Plantae and its technology, in collaboration with University of Córdoba agree to carry out a project aimed at dry monitoring of olive tree varieties at Finca la Pontezuela.

Dry monitoring of olive varieties

To carry out dryland monitoring of different varieties of olive trees, we installed:

  • A weather station.
  • Wireless soil humidity and temperature sensors at two depths, 20cm and 40cm.

The UCO, with the acquisition of the data obtained from the measurements of the sensors and the meteorological station, will be able to more exhaustively evaluate the adaptation of the olive tree varieties tested to the dryland conditions of the country. a href="https://lapontezuela.com/" target="_self">La Pontezuela, producers of Extra Virgin Olive Oil in Los Navalmorales, Toledo.

The incorporation of sensors to measure soil humidity will enable a more precise evaluation of the adaptation to water stress, and the water needs of each variety and therefore its adaptation to dryland environments.

The weather station measures:

  • Relative humidity.
  • Ambient temperature.
  • Dew point: It is the  temperature to which the air must be cooled so that water vapor condenses into frost or dew.
  • Leaf moistening: The hours of the day in which the leaf is moistened.
  • VPD or Vapor Pressure deficit, the difference between the vapor pressure at saturation and the real vapor pressure in the air.. Water stress indicator.
  • Cold hours, low temperature accumulation period, and thermal integral.

This allows for a precise analysis of how each variety responds to those conditions. (+Info).


The experiment is made up of four blocks and a measurement point for each one. The data will be monitored on the Plantae platform with remote access.
