We have already dedicated several articles to these crops, but today we are going to delve into the best soil for pistachio and almond trees, given the influence it has on the control of irrigation and salinity.
The best terrain for pistachio
Choosing the ideal terrain to install a pistachio plantation is one of the most important decisions for the success of our plantation.
We must take into account several factors:
- Orientation : it especially influences late spring frosts and this is one of the factors that most determine the harvest. On surfaces with depths, a south orientation is convenient. It also influences the placement of male pistachios that must protect the north and southwest areas.
- Flat surfaces: favor less runoff and the use of machinery.
- Depth : the tree grows better in deep soils because the availability of organic matter and water is greater.
- Texture : it must be sandy loam. Loamy soils do not suit you because they cause puddles and sandy soils lack of moisture. Pistachio adapts well to times of drought and needs hours of cold for winter lethargy, but in the time of flowering it needs moisture and hours of sun during ripening.
- Good drainage : aerated soil with mineral availability.

Soil tillage
Before proceeding to plant the pistachios, we must practice a deep subsoiler pass to aerate the land.
The soil must be at least one meter deep. Contain sufficient organic matter to favor the grip of the plant.
The planting orderly, with rows at least six meters apart.

El mejor terreno para almendros
The choice of the ideal land to install an almond plantation and the climate of the area are the most important factors that determine the success of the plantation.
- Orientation : convenient so that late spring frosts do not affect it. The almond tree blooms sooner or later depending on the area and the early spring makes it one of the first trees to bloom. A late frost or heavy spring rain can spoil the flowers and cause the harvest to be lost. We already dedicate another very detailed article to the almond tree where we can see the routes of the almond blossom and that vary according to the area.
- Flat surfaces: favor less runoff and the use of machinery. If not, it is advisable to carve it with furrows or in the form of terraces so that the water is better stored.
- Depth : the tree grows better in deep and fertile soils because the availability of organic matter and water is greater.
- Texture : it must be sandy loam. Loamy soils are not suitable because they cause puddles and sandy soils lack of moisture. The almond tree adapts well to times of drought and needs hours of cold for winter lethargy, but in the time of flowering it needs humidity and in ripening, long summers and many hours of sun.
- Good drainage : aerated soil with mineral availability.
